clarification: i’m running 10ks (6.2 miles) after 11mos HOWEVER i will say, i get now how people can just tack on to their long run each week and think if i wanted to run a 10 miler by the 1 year mark, i could.
i essentially started a something similar to couch to 5k: something along the lines of running one minute and walking 2. then pretty quickly i realized if i made about a 10 minute play list i could run the whole time… then i just kept building the playlist. i also had the added benefit (/misery) of studying for the bar this past summer so i scheduled in a run at least 6 days a week for mental vacation. i also ate healthy, so i lost weight, making dragging my ass around the block a lot easier. i slacked off a little through the fall and after christmas bought a treadmill. now that i can run whenever i want in front of a tv i’ve found it pretty easy to stay moving. if i can get through the first 5k, the second doesnt seem so bad.
tips: get new shoes, make a playlist of songs you love and know all the words to, hold yourself accountable & start putting one foot in front of the other. you can do it!
